Black FD3S RX-7 strapped to the chassis dyno with exhaust flame

About the shop

Performance built by rotary. Built in Addison, IL.

Our story

Rotary Performance Shop builds and tunes Mazda rotary engines. Not as a sideline to piston work — it's the only thing we do. From a stock-port street rebuild to a 900-plus horsepower E85 build, every engine goes together in our shop and every tune is verified on the dyno before the keys go back to the owner.

Most of the cars that come through the door are FD3S RX-7s chasing the 500 and 700 horsepower marks on E85, and that's the work you'll see in our videos. We also build 13B-T and naturally aspirated 13Bs for the FC, and RX-8 (Renesis) engines.

We publish our results. The dyno sheets and videos on this site are from customer cars we built or tuned, with numbers from our own dyno. If you're comparing shops, that's the standard we'd ask you to hold everyone to.

The shop

One shop, one builder, one dyno. The person who measures your housings is the person who assembles the engine and the person who tunes it. That is the whole point.

Why rotary

A 13B makes its power from three moving parts per rotor and a lot of precision. It rewards builders who measure everything and punishes the ones who guess. We like that. The engines are light, they rev, they sound like nothing else, and when they're built and tuned properly they hold up to the power people think they can't. Our job is the “properly.”
